GM idles factory for two weeks over lack of chip supplies

General Motors will halt pickup truck production at the Indiana factory for two weeks starting April 4th due to the ongoing shortage of semiconductor chips. The company is also backing a Congress bill to provide $52 billion in subsidies to boost the manufacturing of semiconductors. Read the complete story here

Volvo reduces production as chip shortage continues

Volvo Car has announced its struggle to meet the production forecast for 2022 as the chip shortage brings factories to a standstill. The company is expecting marginal growth this year as compared to last year because of the supply chain bottleneck. Read the full story here

An Electrified Future

EV startup Nikola begins production of its first battery-electric semi-truck 

EV startup Nikola has begun production of the battery-powered version of its electric semi-truck. The deliveries of the Tre battery electric vehicle (BEV) will begin in the second quarter. Following the announcement, Nikola’s shares went up by 15% in the trading market. Here’s the complete story. 

Hertz adds Tesla Model Y to rental fleet 

Rental car agency Hertz has announced that Tesla Model Ys will soon be joining their rental fleet. Last year, the company announced a massive deal to buy 100,000 Model 3 vehicles from Tesla under its electrification plan. Check out the full story here

Tesla recalls nearly a thousand vehicles

Tesla has recalled 947  electric vehicles in its home market of the United States over a delay in rearview image display. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla vehicles do not comply with the federal safety standard on rear visibility and increase the risk of a crash. Maserati’s all-electric Grecale coming in 2023

Italian luxury automaker Maserati announced an all-electric range of vehicles including an SUV called Grecale. The model will debut in 2023, and will be the first of six EVs the company promises to deliver by 2025. Earlier, the company said it plans to shift to EV-only sales by 2030.
