NUST’s formula electric racing team unveils 4th EV

Formula Electric Racing – NUST (FERN) has unveiled its fourth electric vehicle. It is the first electric team from Pakistan to win a podium at Formula Student Russia in 2021. The team is now scheduled to attend the Formula Student UK 22 competition in the Electric and Driverless Vehicle category. Check out the full story here

Renault unveils hydrogen-powered SUV prototype

French automaker Renault has unveiled a prototype hydrogen fuel cell-powered SUV in a race to clean driving. The SUV model is like any other electric model of the company but the vehicle’s motor is powered by electricity produced through hydrogen with a better range. The car will produce 75% reduction in carbon footprint compared to a conventional electric model. Here is the full story.

Tesla removed from S&P 500 ESG index

S&P has removed electric carmaker Tesla from the widely followed S&P 500 ESG Index because of crashes linked to its autopilot vehicles and lack of low-carbon strategy. The S&P 500 ESG Index uses environmental, social and governance data to rank companies. In response, Elon Musk called the metrics system a scam. Read the complete story here.

Toyota to cut global production by 100,000 in June

Toyota will cut its global production plan by about 100,000 to roughly 850,000 in June due to the semiconductor shortage. In a statement, the company announced it’s difficult to move forward with chip shortage and COVID-19 outbreaks in Shanghai. Earlier, the company committed to produce 9.7 million vehicles worldwide by March 2023. Here is the full story

Ford recalls 39,000 SUVs over fire engine reports 

Ford Motors announced that the company is recalling 39,000 SUVs after reports of 16 fires. The recall is due to an engine compartment fire that can occur while the car is being driven or even when it is parked with the ignition off. Read the complete story here
