BRT Peshawar gets an honorable mention in Sustainable Transport Award 2022

Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) got an honorable mention in the Sustainable Transport Award 2022 for implementing innovative sustainable transport in the city in the preceding year. The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) announced the award and lauded BRT Peshawar’s role in green mobility. Read more about it here

PKR190B approved for road infrastructure projects 

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a budget of PKR190 billion for road infrastructure projects in Pakistan. The ECNEC meeting chaired by the Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar approved the construction of a 69km long, four-lane wide Sialkot (Sambrial)-Kharian motorway project as well. Careem’s investment in Pakistan reaches $100 million 

Since its inception, Careem has invested $100 million in Pakistan creating a customer base of 10 million, according to an independent report released. The report includes in-depth data on Careem’s economic impact. It indicates that Careem has created 800,000 employment opportunities in the form of Careem Captains only. Read more here.

LMKR and Mastercard look to build Pakistan’s first open-loop transit solution

LMKR and Mastercard have announced a strategic partnership to build Pakistan’s first open-loop transit solution. The collaboration will eliminate the need to buy separate tickets for their transit fares. Commuters will be able to top-up and pay fares using their digital wallets. Karachi Green Line bus service to start operations from 25th December

The much-awaited Green Line bus service will begin commercial operations from 25th December in Karachi, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar announced. Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the pioneering mass transit system of the city in the next ten days for trial operations. Check out more about it here.

Toyota and BYD to build affordable $30,000 electric car

Toyota and BYD – a Chinese automaker are all set to launch an affordable $30,000 electric vehicle. The EV to be launched is a small Sedan that is going to be powered by BYD’s blade battery cells. Previously, Tesla also showed interest in BYD’s blade batteries. For now, the car will be introduced in China only. Check out more about it here.

Tesla announces $1,900 electric quad bike for kids

The American automaker Tesla has announced a $1,900 electric quad bike for kids called Cyberquad. It is an angular electric all-terrain vehicle that is now available to purchase on Tesla’s website as the lowest-priced vehicle in their existing lineup. The bike gets up to 15 miles on a full charge. Read more about it here

Kia EV6 beats Tesla to enter Guinness World Records  

Kia’s latest EV6 electric car has entered the Guinness Book of World Records. The all-new 2022 car has broken the record of using the shortest charging time to cross the United States covering a distance of 4,635kms. It took the Kia EV6 seven days to complete the run and make the world record. Read more here.      

Nissan unveils $17.6B electric-vehicle strategy

Nissan Motor Company has announced their $17.6 billion electric-vehicle strategy for the next five years. The company will invest the amount to electrify its current car lineup and introduce 15 new electric vehicles. Nissan Leaf is one of the world’s top-selling electric vehicles with sales more than Tesla’s models. Read more here

Ford claims top spot in EV sales for the month of November, outsells GM

Ford Motor Company became the best-selling automaker in the United States for the third consecutive month of November. The company sold 158,793 vehicles and the lineup of all-electric vehicles increased by 153% over last November outselling its biggest rival General Motors. Check out the complete story here.
